A simple rib stretch to help improve rib cage mobilization in the horse

This is the second part of 2-part series on rib cage mobilizing exercises for the horse.  As mentioned in the previous article, horses can develop the habit over time of holding their ribs to one side, making them “one-sided”.  This can affect things like lead changes, lateral flexion and circles/turns, which require the horse to freely move (or bend) through the rib cage.  Doing exercises with our horses that help remind their bodies that they can move in the non-dominant direction is important to put them on the road to becoming more balanced and to may also improve performance.

This video demonstrates a simple stretch that I show to my equine massage clients and which when added to the daily routine, can significantly improve spinal/thoracic flexibility and help to overcome muscle memory.
