Essenty Websites Let’s face it, horses have just as big a sweet tooth as us girls do!  So the dilemma…how to make your own healthy horse treat that tastes good and not leave you feeling guilty for giving them a bunch of empty calories.  I scoured the internet for a recipe that would be both natural, limited on processed sugar and allow the incorporation of therapeutic essential oils which could add both flavor and specific, targeted health benefits of your choice.

Natural Horse Apple Treats

  • 2 Cups – Plain oats (Quaker oats is fine)
  • 1 Cup – Organic sugar-free apple sauce
  • 1/2 Cup – Shredded carrots (Optional)
  • 10 Drops – Young Living Vitality essential oil of your choice*

Mix in a bowl with just enough flour for hold the mixture together into balls.  Roll into bite sized balls.  Bake at 225 degrees for 1 hour.

Suggested Essential Oils To Add To Your Treats

Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil – Has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma. One of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion, it may also restore digestive efficiency.* Jean Valnet MD studied peppermint’s supportive effect on the liver and respiratory systems. Dr. William N. Dember of the University of Cincinnati studied peppermint’s ability to improve concentration and mental sharpness. Peppermint may also be used to enhance the flavor of food and water.

Di-Gize Vitality Essential Oil Blend – Di-Gize Vitality is a great blend for horses with any type of digestive upset.  It is a dietary supplement that provides valuable aid for digestive concerns and helps support a healthy digestive system.*

Thieves Vitality Essential Oil Blend – Thieves Vitality is an excellent oil to help support your horse’s immune system.  A great choice for horses with compromised immune systems or recovering from illness or injury.  Thieves® Vitality was created based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. This proprietary essential oil blend was university tested for its cleansing abilities. It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health.*  Most horses love the flavorful blend which includes cinnamon and cloves.

Only use pure therapeutic grade essential oils for internal use.  Many oils on the market are of a perfume or aroma grade and have been adulterated, cut or processed with toxic substances, not meant to be ingested.
