The shifting of the season brings with it many things…cooler weather, winter coats fill in, winterizing our tack and barns. In my case it brings with it a realization that I need to shift focus with one of my true passions – equine massage.
I’ve heard said that the average career lifespan of a massage therapist is typically anywhere between 5 and 10 years. I’m going on nearly 7 very rewarding years now. My body has been telling me for quite some time that it’s having a hard time doing certain tasks. Massage is a very physically demanding career, and when you already have a preexisting physical condition like carpal tunnel (the legacy of my former corporate career), it’s only a matter of time before you have to throw in the towel or face much more serious consequences.
I am therefore shifting the focus of my business away from the more physical aspects and toward my other passion and technical part of my business – website development and maintenance services. Web design and IT has been part of my business since it began in 2005 and was something that I brought with me from my previous corporate life as an IT Specialist and Database/Web Application Developer. As all things with my business, my web design clientele tends to have a strong focus toward horses and health/wellness. However, I am not limited to only horse business clients and work with any type of business and relish new challenges. I will still be working with my current equine massage clients on a limited basis through the rest of the year, and I will continue sharing information about equine bodywork and natural horse care via articles and videos on my website. After the first of the year, I will still be available on a consultation basis and continue to help horse owners develop exercise and therapy programs that meet their individual needs and lifestyles.
